Sanu Varghese

Biography:

Sanu Indian cinematographer John Varughese ISC has shot movies in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Hindi. He worked on Hindi, Tamil, and Malayalam films after beginning his career as a technician in DD News, advertisements, and documentaries. For his performance in Kamal Haasan’s spy thriller Vishwaroopam (2013), he received praise.

After graduating from the College of Fine Arts Trivandrum, Sanu Varughese joined the University of Hyderabad’s Sarojini Naidu School of Arts and Communication and then started working for DD News. Before making his debut as an independent cameraman with Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon (2003), he got to know Ravi K. Chandran and worked with him on a few projects and documentaries. Before obtaining the chance to work on the Hindi film Karthik Calling Karthik (2010) and the Malayalam psychological thriller Elektra (2010), he continued to work on commercials, filming almost 600 of them. He also started Marmayogi, a historical Tamil film starring Kamal Haasan, around that time, however the project was cancelled after pre-production.

Kamal Haasan phoned Sanu in the beginning of 2010 to collaborate on the making of his bilingual spy thriller Vishwaroopam (2013). After that, Sanu worked hard to secure locations around the world for the movie during its two-year production. His work in portraying the topography of Jordan, which was depicted as Afghanistan in the movie, earned praise, and his contemporaries in the film industry praised the film’s technical brilliance.

During the production of the first movie, the sequel was also shot in large parts, but Varghese was unable to join the crew for later schedules because of his hectic schedule. Later, he also worked with Kamal Haasan on the bilingual Thoongaa Vanam (2015) film, and A. R. Rahman on the videos for his album Raunaq.
