Arun Pandian

Biography:

Arun Pandian is a multifaceted Indian individual known for his roles as an actor, filmmaker, and politician. His career in the entertainment industry commenced with his notable appearance in the critically acclaimed film “Oomai Vizhigal” in 1986. After retiring from his acting career, he assumed the role of chief producer at Ayngaran International, a prominent London-based film production and distribution company. Subsequently, he embarked on establishing his own production and distribution company, A&P Groups.

In addition to his contributions to the film industry, Arun Pandian is actively involved in various professional associations. He serves as the secretary of the South Indian Film Financiers Association (Siffa) and holds the position of president at the South Indian Film Exporters Association (Sifea).

Arun Pandian’s engagement in politics also holds significance. In 2011, he ventured into the realm of politics by becoming a Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) after contesting in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election as a candidate for the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) party, representing the constituency of Peravurani. However, in 2016, he made a political switch by joining the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) in the presence of the party’s general secretary and Tamil Nadu chief minister, Jayalalithaa.

On a personal note, Arun Pandian is the son of retired Lieutenant Colonel D. P. Chellaiah and resides in Tirunelveli. His late brother, C. Durai Pandian, directed the film “Uzhiyan” in 1994, with Arun Pandian taking on the lead role. He is the proud father of three daughters: Kavitha Pandian, Kirana Pandian, and Keerthi Pandian. Arun Pandian holds a Bachelor’s degree in economics from Madras University. Interestingly, his daughter Keerthi Pandian and his niece Ramya Pandian have followed in his footsteps and are working as actresses in the entertainment industry.
