Story:

“Theri” is a 2016 Tamil-language action thriller film directed by Atlee Kumar and produced by Kalaipuli S. Thanu. The movie, inspired by Mani Ratnam’s “Chatriyan,” stars Vijay, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and Amy Jackson. The story revolves around Joseph Kuruvilla, a former police officer, who lives peacefully with his daughter Niveditha. After revealing his true identity as DCP Vijay Kumar to Niveditha’s teacher Annie, he recounts his past. In his earlier days, Vijay investigates the sexual assault and murder of an IT worker named Raji, leading to confrontation with a powerful politician’s son. Later, tragedy strikes Vijay’s life when his wife and mother are killed, prompting him to raise his daughter away from violence.

In the present, Vijay, now leading a quiet life, seeks revenge when his daughter’s life is endangered by the same politician who seeks vengeance against him. He returns to his former self and eliminates those responsible for his family’s suffering. After a series of strategic moves, Vijay takes down his enemies and orchestrates his own capture. Ultimately, he wipes out the main antagonist and his associates. The film ends with Vijay, now under a new identity, continuing his service to the CBI and keeping his promise to his late wife, Mithra.

“Theri” received positive reviews and became a commercial success, grossing double its budget. It secured awards and nominations, and its popularity endured through reruns on television. The film’s plot revolves around themes of vengeance, family, and redemption, with Vijay’s character navigating a journey from a peaceful life to seeking justice for his loved ones.
