George C. Williams

Biography:

George C. Williams is an Indian cinematographer active in the Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam film industries.

During his youth, George C. Williams displayed a strong interest in the visual aspects of Tamil cinema, closely observing lighting, camera angles, and framing, especially in the works of prominent cinematographers like P. C. Sreeram, Santhosh Sivan, and Jeeva. He pursued a degree in Visual Communication from Madras Christian College, where he deepened his understanding of cinematography. He became acquainted with director Atlee Kumar during his college years, which eventually led to collaborations on films like “Raja Rani” and “Theri.”

George’s entry into the film industry was facilitated by choreographer Kalyan, a family friend, who introduced him to cinematographer Nirav Shah as an assistant. His initial roles included working as a second unit cameraman on films like “Billa” (2007) and “Sarvam” (2009), allowing him to become familiar with the technical aspects of filmmaking. He also contributed to the video for the song “Nenjodu Cherthu” from the music album “Yuvvh” (2012), directed by Alphonse Putharen, which garnered praise from Malayalam audiences.

His breakthrough came when he was selected by AR Murugadoss to serve as the primary cinematographer for the films “Raja Rani” (2013) and “Kaththi” (2014), both directed by Atlee. The success of these movies elevated George’s status to become one of the leading cinematographers in the Tamil film industry. This achievement paved the way for him to work on projects in Malayalam and Telugu cinema as well.
