S. Ramana Girivasan

Biography:

S. Ramana Girivasan, born on June 30, 1972, is a prominent screenplay writer primarily working in the Tamil film and television industry. He gained fame for his work on Vijay’s films Theri and Mersal, directed by Atlee. Before entering the film industry, he led the fiction team at Vijay TV, a Tamil regional channel under Star TV. During his eight-year tenure there, he introduced a new style of storytelling, moving away from melodramatic TV series to more realistic and down-to-earth drama series.

His iconic television series, including Kanaa Kaanum Kaalangal, Office, and Madurai, were well-received by audiences, contributing significantly to the transformation of Vijay TV into a preferred destination for fiction shows.

Ramana Girivasan was born in Thiruchendur on August 20, 1972, and completed his schooling at St. Xavier’s Higher Secondary School in Palayamkottai. He pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Adithanar College of Arts and Science and later attended The Film and Television Institute of Tamil Nadu, where he completed his D.F.T (Direction and Screenplay Writing) from 1992 to 1995. He also holds an M.B.A and M.A in Sociology.

After completing his directorial course at the Chennai Film Institute, he began his career as an assistant director in Tamil movies. He also ventured into acting and appeared in popular Tamil films like Shree, Kovil, Saamy, and Maayavi, sharing the screen with leading Tamil actors such as Suriya, Vikram, and Simbu.

His television journey started at APT TV, where he worked on format shows for various South Indian channels and Hindi channels like Channel V. Currently, as a content producer under the banner of FICTION TEAM, he continues to create content for both television and digital platforms.

Some of his popular television shows include Khaki, Mappillai, and Naam Iruvar Nammaku Iruvar. Ramana Girivasan’s unique writing style and creativity continue to captivate film and TV audiences.
