At the age of 17, Venkat moved to Chennai with the goal of acting in motion pictures. He had an unsatisfactory beginning to his career and took a temporary job driving an auto rickshaw while going to auditions. After that, he was chosen for a part in the television series Metti Oli. Director Bharathiraja offered him a position in Eera Nilam (2003) after recognizing his efforts in the serial. He has starred in the S. S. Baba Vikram-directed Tamil movie Kannamma in 2005.
He has also appeared with Mammootty and Dileep in a few Malayalam films.
He claims that working alongside superstar Rajinikanth on the 2007 Tamil action-thriller Sivaji, directed by S. Shankar, was his best experience. Despite playing a bad character with Suman, he received appreciation from all quarters for his performance. Key parts have been portrayed by Bose in films such as Kavan (2017), Yaamirukka Bayamey (2014), 36 Vayadhinile (2015), Saroja (2008), Dhaam Dhoom (2008), Singam (2010), Ko (2011), and Marudhamalai (2007).
In 2020, he made his directing debut with Kanni Maadam.
