It is a reimagining of Kakkakuyil, a 2001 Malayalam movie directed by Priyadarshan and based on A Fish Called Wanda.M. M. Keeravani wrote the soundtrack and score for the movie. On May 22, 2002, Tappu Chesi Pappu Koodu was launched.

Plot

Sivaji is unemployed and desperately needs money to pay for his mother’s medical care. Instead of going to the United States as he had told his family he was going, Sivaji arrives in Mumbai in search of employment. But as soon as he gets to the city, he loses his luggage, and that’s when he meets Ramesh, an old buddy of his who works as a con artist.

Sivaji has no choice but to join Ramesh in the deceitful company in order to gain quick money. The group robs a bank with the help of Cheecha and Pedda Koteswara Rao. Cheecha reports the robbery to the police under false pretenses, intending to take the total amount of money.

She reveals that Koteswara Rao was the one who executed the entire scheme. Koteswara Rao hides all of the money in a locker at a different bank before he is caught, and no one is aware of where it is kept.

Zamindar Bhupati, popularly known as Raju gaaru, and his spouse are wealthy Telugus residing in Mumbai, where they are a blind couple. They lost their sight in an accident, and their son and daughter-in-law are now deceased.

They haven’t seen their grandson Bujji in a while, but he is a student in the US. The elderly couple uses a paan vendor’s assistance to read any letters they get. They receive a telegram one day. The paan vendor is illiterate in English, so they ask Ramesh to read aloud to them.

Ramesh sees an opening and informs them that Bujji will be arriving the next day, even though it is written that he will visit Mumbai after six months. Radhika Rani informs the elderly couple that Bujji passed away in an accident back in the states and that she traveled to Mumbai to inform Raja gaaru about Bujji’s passing after realizin.

Ramesh and Sivaji are not genuinely defrauding them of their money. She made the decision to follow along and not reveal the truth because the couple appeared content and joyful when they saw Bujji in Ramesh and Sivaji. But Ramesh becomes anxious for cash. He intends to sell the pricey idol he stole from the elderly couple’s home. Ramesh leaves angry after Sivaji confronts him over the same thing.

When a guilty Sivaji confesses to Raju gaaru, he asks to carry on with the charade because his wife finds it difficult to accept that her grandson has passed away. Ramesh arrives just in time, feeling regret for his deeds, as Raju gaaru’s wife arrives calling for Bujji. Raju gaaru gives Ramesh and Sivaji a warm embrace, beaming with happiness.
