Ramayana: Part 1

Story:

The upcoming Indian Hindi-language epic mythological film Ramayana: Part 1[a] is co-written and directed by Nitesh Tiwari and Shridhar Raghavan. The film, which was produced by Namit Malhotra and Yash, is based on Valmiki’s authentic old Sanskrit epic Ramayana, which tells the story of Prince Rama of Ayodhya’s life and struggles. In addition to Anupam Kher, Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, Vivek Oberoi, Kunal Kapoor, Adinath Kothare, Arun Govil, Indira Krishnan, and Lara Dutta, the ensemble cast includes Ranbir Kapoor, Ravi Dubey (making his film debut), Sai Pallavi, Sunny Deol, and Yash (making his Hindi film debut).

The live-action version of Valmiki’s Ramayana, which the makers originally intended to be a trilogy, was revealed in May 2017. The project was reorganized into a two-part film series under Tiwari’s exclusive supervision after years of development and script improvement. After working on a song for the original soundtrack of Fateh, Hans Zimmer made his full-fledged debut in the Indian film industry when he and A. R. Rahman collaborated on the film’s score. Production started in April 2024 at Mumbai’s Film City and ran thru July 2025. It is expected to be the most costly Indian movie ever produced, with an estimated budget of ₹4,000 crore (US$420 million).

Ramayana: Part 1 will be released in Western markets on November 6, 2026; in India, it will be released on November 8, which is Diwali.
