Based on the biography of Shivaji, the founder of the Maratha Empire, Riteish Deshmukh is co-writing and directing the next Indian historical action drama film Raja Shivaji (translated as King Shivaji). Jyoti Deshpande and Genelia Deshmukh are the film’s producers. In addition to Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sachin Khedekar, Bhagyashree, Fardeen Khan, Jitendra Joshi, Amole Gupte, and Genelia Deshmukh, the ensemble cast includes Riteish Deshmukh in the titular role.
On February 19, 2024, the movie was formally announced. Filming took held in Mumbai, Satara, Wai, Mahabaleshwar, and throughout the Western Ghats as principal photography got underway that same month. It will be released in theaters on May 1, 2026, and is being produced concurrently in Hindi and Marathi.
