Telugu
TheatreBalasekaran is the writer and director of the 2001 Telugu-language romantic comedy Priyamaina Neeku, which translates to “To You, My Dear.” Ali, Venu Madhav, and Tanikella Bharani played supporting parts in the movie, which starred Tarun, Sivaji, Sneha (in her Telugu debut), and Preetha. Both the movie and the album were well-reviewed when they were first released and did well at the box office.
Due to its popularity, the movie was eventually reshot and released in Tamil in December 2002 under the title Kadhal Sugamanathu (which translates to “Love is Pleasure”). Pyramid Natarajan played Tarun’s father, and Livingston played the comic songs that Ali played in the Telugu original. The Tamil version did well as well.
Plot
Infuriating his father Raja Shekar (Tanikella Bharani), Ganesh (Tarun) is a carefree Hyderabadi college student whose life is all about his buddies and doing wonderful things for them. In Raja Shekar’s auction shop, Ganesh stumbles upon a red diary one day. Actually, it’s a diary that his former neighbour Sandhya (Sneha) unintentionally left behind.
In this movie, the diary serves as the narrative for the whole first half. Sandhya is residing in the house across from Ganesh’s sister Aishwarya’s. After hearing Ganesh’s beautiful guitar playing, she falls in love. However, Ganesh has never interacted with her and is ignorant of her devotion. In addition, she is a quiet girl who never expresses her emotions to Ganesh. Sandhya’s younger sister, Sirisha (Preetha Vijayakumar), is a hostel student. She wants to take Ganesh away from Sandhya because she envies her for loving him when she returns home for the holidays.
Sirisha plays a double game by tricking Ganesh to win his affection and promises Sandhya that she will put Sandhya’s love between them. In the meantime, the father of Sandhya and Sirisha has moved to Visakhapatnam. Sandhya requests that Sirisha inform Ganesh of her devotion. When Sirisha asks Ganesh to marry her, he declines. Sandhya, who covertly watched the entire incident, feels deceived by her own sister’s betrayal. However, Sandhya avoids asking Ganesh to marry her because she fears being turned down. Sandhya’s diary is lost during the transfer procedure when her family relocates to Visakhapatnam.
Ganesh wants to meet Sandhya and propose to her after learning that she is his hidden admirer. He sees the purity of her love. He and his best friend Chacha (Venu Madhav) depart for Visakhapatnam. There, Ganesh stays in Raghu’s (Sivaji) home and becomes genuinely friends with him. Living with his parents, Raghu is a wealthy bachelor. Raghu becomes engaged to the uncooperative Sandhya while Ganesh investigates his covert search for her. Ganesh is there to find his silent admirer, Raghu finds out later.
Ganesh is aware that Raghu and Sandhya are getting married. He doesn’t want to betray him because he is a wonderful friend. Sandhya has consented to marriage since she doesn’t want to worsen her sister’s and father’s situation. She still adores Ganesh, though. Sirisha wishes to make amends for her error. To bring them together, she looks for Ganesh. Since Sandhya and Raghu are getting married in a few minutes, everything is still unclear and uncertain. In the end, Sandhya and Ganesh get back together, Sirisha tells everything, and she marries Raghu.
