TheatreKranthi Kumar produced and directed the 1990 Telugu action film Neti Siddhartha, sometimes referred to by its alternate title Siddhartha, under the Kranthi Chitra banner. With music by Laxmikant–Pyarelal, it stars Nagarjuna, Krishnam Raju, Shobana, and Ayesha Jhulka (making her acting debut). It’s a reimagining of the 1975 Hindi film Dharmatma, which was adapted from The Godfather. The movie’s box office performance was mediocre.
Plot
The business giant K.P. (Krishnam Raju) is the father of Siddhartha (Nagarjuna). After a long absence from the States, Siddhartha returns. His childhood buddy Jyothi (Shobana) harbors unrequited feelings for him. One day, his friend David (Sarath Babu) informs him that K.P. is the head of an underground mafia gang; K.P. goes on to assassinate David.
After leaving his house, Siddhartha travels to a forest where he meets Basanti (Ayesha Jhulka), a tribal girl, and falls in love. Meanwhile, with the assistance of his son-in-law Chakravarthy (J. D. Chakravarthy), syndicate members Jogendra (Tiger Prabhakar) and Shetty (Pradeep Shakthi) intend to murder K.P. and Siddhartha, resulting in the deaths of K.P. and Basanti. Returning to lead the organization, Siddhartha exacts revenge on his surviving foes.
