S. Charuhasan

Biography:

D. Srinivasan, a lawyer and supporter of Indian independence, and his wife Rajalakshmi welcomed S. Charuhasan on January 5, 1931. He was the couple’s oldest child and more than 23 years older than Kamal Haasan, his younger brother.

Unlike most kids his age, Charuhasan did not attend school for the first few years of his life owing to an accident. Instead, he received a basic education from a private tutor. At the age of nine, he was immediately admitted to the fifth grade. Charuhasan enrolled in the Raja Lakhamgouda Law College in Belgaum in 1949, and he earned his law degree there in 1951.

From 1951 through 1981, Charuhasan was a practicing attorney. In numerous high-profile instances, Charuhasan served as counsel and even defended the U.Muthuramalingam Thevar in the murder of Immanuvel Sekaran.He was influenced by Periyar E. V. Ramasamy’s rationalist worldview during this time. Even Periyar called Charuhasan his sishyan .

Since he was young, Charuhasan has been fascinated in movies. He used to watch two foreign movies a day in the late 1940s. Charuhasan took care of his younger brother Kamal Hasan when he began appearing in movies as a kid actor. Finally, Charuhasan made his acting debut in the 1979 Tamil film Uthiripookkal, which was based on a short tale by Pudhumaipithan and was directed by Mahendran.

His most significant films are Vedham Pudhithu, Tabarana Kathe, and Thalapathi. Since then, he has appeared in more than 120 movies, frequently in supporting or hostile parts. In addition, he has directed two movies, Puthiya Sangamam and IPC 215.
