Maari

Story:

“Maari” is a Tamil comedy-action film directed by Balaji Mohan and co-produced by Sarathkumar, Raadhika Sarathkumar, and Listin Stephen under the Magic Frames banner. Dhanush, who also serves as a co-producer, stars in the lead role alongside Kajal Aggarwal, with Robo Shankar, Kalloori Vinoth, Kaali Venkat, and Mime Gopi in supporting roles. The film’s music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander.

The film which released on July 17, 2015,  centers around a local goon who extorts money from his neighborhood but also loves pigeon racing. He forces his way into a business partnership with Sridevi. A cunning cop, Arjun, collects enough proof to put Maari behind bars with the help of Sridevi. As tables turn, Arjun takes control of the town for his own greed; now Maari is the only one who can challenge the corrupt police in his town.

Filming took place in and around Chennai and Tuticorin. The movie received mixed reviews but performed reasonably well at the box office. Despite competing with “Baahubali: The Beginning,” “Maari” had a significant opening, with 294 screens in Chennai and 600 across Tamil Nadu on its first day. A sequel, “Maari 2,” was released on December 21, 2018.
