Born : 25/05/1987
Birth Place : Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India

Biography:

Balaji Mohan, is a versatile Indian filmmaker and actor renowned for his contributions to Tamil-language cinema. Displaying an early passion for filmmaking, he made the bold decision to discontinue his engineering studies, opting to pursue his directorial aspirations. Balaji enrolled at the L. V. Prasad Film and TV Academy in Vadapalani, Chennai, where he honed his skills in editing and sound design. Additionally, he explored the art of acting at the Alchemy Institute in Adyar, Chennai.

Hailing from Tiruchirappalli, Balaji underwent schooling at Campion Anglo-Indian Higher Secondary School before venturing into higher studies at Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering in Chennai. Despite pursuing engineering, Balaji had already set his sights on becoming a director since the 10th grade. His journey into filmmaking began with the creation of his first short film, “Velicham,” made possible by a handycam gifted by his parents in the third semester.

Although initially intending to complete his education before delving fully into filmmaking, Balaji’s passion led him to discontinue his engineering course after two years. He joined the L. V. Prasad Film and TV Academy to further his knowledge of the craft. The talented filmmaker also explored acting at Alchemy Institute, adding another dimension to his skill set.

Balaji Mohan’s foray into the film industry commenced as an assistant director for the Tamil film “Kulir 100°” in 2009. Simultaneously, he participated in Kalaignar TV’s inaugural season of “Naalaya Iyakunar,” directing five short films that showcased his talent and earned him recognition. Among these works, “Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Yeppadi” gained immense popularity, going viral on YouTube and catching the attention of cinematographer Nirav Shah.

Inspired by the short film’s success, Nirav Shah proposed adapting it into a full-length feature. This led to the creation of the romantic comedy film “Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Yeppadi,” featuring Siddharth in the lead role. The film, co-produced by Siddharth and released in February 2012, received widespread acclaim and emerged as a sleeper hit.

Balaji Mohan expanded his horizons by venturing into Malayalam cinema with his second directorial venture, “Vaayai Moodi Pesavum,” a bilingual film also released in Malayalam as “Samsaaram Aarogyathinu Haanikaram.” He continued his successful streak with the Tamil film “Maari” in 2015, starring Dhanush. The collaboration between Balaji Mohan and Dhanush continued with the sequel, “Maari 2.”

In addition to his directorial ventures, Balaji ventured into web series production, writing, and acting. The web series titled “As I’m Suffering From Kadhal,” which he produced, written, and directed, garnered attention for its innovative storytelling. Released on Hotstar Originals in June 2017, the series was created in Tamil and dubbed in Telugu.

Balaji Mohan’s versatile contributions to Indian cinema showcase his passion for storytelling and filmmaking, earning him recognition and appreciation within the industry.
