TheatreThe 2025 Indian Hindi-language cyber thriller drama film Logout, which stars Babil Khan, is a biting indictment of our reliance on smartphones. Nimisha Nair, Rasika Dugal, and Gandharv Dewan are also part of the cast. Amit Golani is the director, Viacom18 Studios and Posham Pa Pictures are the producers, and Biswapati Sarkar is the writer. Logout examines the negative aspects of digital celebrity and the psychological effects of living an online life. On April 18, 2025, ZEE5 released it.
Pratyush Dua (Babil Khan), a well-known social media influencer who is about to exceed 10 million followers, is followed by Logout. Entertaining and charismatic, Pratyush has centered his public presence on a meticulously manicured online persona. His sister Ananya is worried about his growing fixation with celebrity and online approval, even as his success on the internet keeps growing.
Pratyush’s smartphone, which is essential to his social media activities, gets stolen during a public event. His internet accounts have been taken over by an anonymous person using the alias “Shadow,” which he initially dismisses as a small setback. The unidentified person starts publishing disturbing material, tampering with Pratyush’s public identity, and disclosing bits of his private data. Shadow swiftly turns what begins as digital vandalism into a full-fledged violation of privacy by taking advantage of the influencer’s financial information, private messages, and data.
Pratyush contacts Inspector Rhea, a cybercrime investigator looking into the breach, and his manager and close friend Vikram in an effort to take back control of his accounts. Shadow continues to elude them despite their best attempts and seems to predict every action. Pratyush is destabilized by the attacker’s more psychological taunts, which use his own digital trail.
The effect is immediate and widely known. The mysterious postings are misconstrued by followers as being from Pratyush himself, which causes resentment and damages his reputation. He starts to feel alone, suspicious, and obsessed with the mystery of Shadow’s identity and intentions. Ananya makes an effort to step in, but she finds it difficult to overcome his increasing disengagement from reality.
The story is largely presented in a screenlife format using smartphone interfaces, video calls, and social media feeds to portray events. Interspersed flashbacks trace Pratyush’s rise to online fame, illustrating the pressures and compromises that shaped his influencer journey. These glimpses into his past reveal a person who once valued authentic connections but gradually drifted toward superficial online validation.
Pratyush discovers hints that hint Shadow may have a personal connection to his history as the digital cat-and-mouse game progresses. He is forced to consider the price of his achievement after learning that his quest for fame resulted in damaged relationships and emotional isolation. When he sees the negative aspects of his way of life, he decides to take back his identity.
As Pratyush crafts a trap to reveal Shadow, the movie builds to a suspenseful conclusion. He is compelled to face up to unpleasant realities about the world and himself as a result. The conclusion puts his fortitude to the test and makes him consider whether he can redefine himself outside of the virtual identity he has created.
The effects of digital dependency, the brittleness of online personas, and the psychological costs of cyberstalking are all examined in Logout. The film explores the difficulties of celebrity in the era of perpetual connectedness, where a single gadget has the power to both mold and destroy public opinion, through Pratyush’s experience. In the midst of the commotion, Vikram and Inspector Rhea provide helpful support, while Ananya offers a realistic counterbalance to Pratyush’s unraveling.
In the end, Logout serves as a warning about the fuzziness of the boundaries between the actual and virtual worlds as well as the psychological toll of constantly being watched by an online audience.
