Biography:

Nirmalamma, born on July 18, 1920, in Machilipatnam, British India, was a highly esteemed Indian actress known for her prolific career in Telugu cinema. She left an indelible mark with her versatile talent, appearing in over 800 films. Notably, she became renowned for her portrayal of grandmother roles in numerous movies and was a recipient of two prestigious Nandi Awards.

Her cinematic journey commenced with her debut film, “Garuda Garvabhangam,” in 1943, setting the stage for a remarkable career. Nirmalamma had the privilege of sharing the screen with legendary artists in Telugu Cinema, including NTR, ANR, Krishna, S. V. Ranga Rao, Rajendra Prasad, P. B. Srinivas, Chiranjeevi, Nandamuri Balakrishna, Venkatesh, Nagarjuna Akkineni, and many others. She was a frequent collaborator with directors S. V. Krishna Reddy and E. V. V. Satyanarayana.

Over her illustrious five-decade career, Nirmalamma’s contributions to cinema were widely celebrated. She received the Nandi Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “Mayuri.” Her memorable performances in films such as “Sankarabharanam,” “Yamagola,” “Padaharella Vayasu,” “Swathi Muthyam,” “Maavi Chiguru,” and “Subha Sankalpam” left an enduring impact on the audience.

Additionally, she ventured into film production through Nirmala Arts and produced “Chalaki Mogudu Chadasthapu Pellam,” featuring Rajendra Prasad and directed by Relangi Narasimha Rao.

Nirmalamma’s final film appearance was in “Premaku Swagatham,” directed by the renowned S. V. Krishna Reddy. Her last public appearance occurred at the Vajrothsava celebrations of Telugu cinema, where she was fondly remembered for her portrayal of mother and grandmother roles across generations.
