P. J. Sarma

Biography:

Pudipeddi Jogeswara Sarma, known professionally as P. J. Sarma, was a versatile figure in the Telugu film industry. Born in Kallepalli Agraham, Vizianagaram, India, to P.V. Narasimham and P. Kamala, he received his early education through S.S.L.C. and later attended Maharajah’s College in Vizianagaram.

P. J. Sarma, who began his career as a Telugu film dubbing artist and later transitioned into acting and writing, was married to the late P. Krishna Jyothi, also a dubbing artist. They were parents to five children, including the well-known actors Sai Kumar and P. Ravi Shankar. Furthermore, he was the grandfather of Aadi Pudipeddi, a prominent Telugu actor and cricketer.

His illustrious career was primarily centered in Telugu cinema, with occasional appearances in Kannada and Tamil films. P. J. Sarma established himself as a prominent dubbing artist, lending his voice to numerous actors in over 500 films. Initially, he began his acting journey with character roles and eventually appeared in more than 150 Telugu and Kannada movies.

Later in his career, he relocated to Madras to pursue acting. His debut as an actor was in the 1957 Telugu film “Illarikam,” directed by Pratheyehathma. He gained recognition for his roles in movies such as “Athanu” (2001), “Ram Robert Rahim” (1980), and “Collector Janaki” (1976), among others. Notably, he was often cast as a police officer or a villain in his films. Some of his memorable movies include “Sampoorna Ramayanam,” “Kurukshetram,” “Daana Veera Soora Karna,” “Nyayam Kavali,” “Talliprema,” “Khaidi,” “Erramallelu,” “Karthavyam,” and “Tholi Prema,” among many others.

Tragically, on December 14, 2014, P. J. Sarma passed away suddenly due to a heart attack at his residence in Manikonda. He left behind two daughters and three sons. His funeral services were held at ESI Hindu Smashana Vatika. Interestingly, just a day before his demise, he had attended the wedding of his grandson, Aadi.
