Both critics and viewers gave the movie favorable reviews, complimenting the cast’s performances and the screenplay. With a box office receipt of ₹85 crore, the movie was among the highest-grossing Tamil productions of 2024. The announcement of a sequel came shortly after the movie’s popularity.
On June 6, 2009, cancer survivor Samuel “Sam” Richard and his buddies were discovered hanging after they fell from an apartment complex. Sam’s wife, Debbie, believes there was foul play. Tension between Debbie and her parents arises a few years after Sam’s passing when Debbie’s mother becomes infuriated when she learns that Debbie has made two unsuccessful efforts to conceive using Sam’s saved sperm through artificial insemination. Debbie has a stronger bond with Dr. Richard, Sam’s father.
Debbie discovers Srinivasan “Srini” while traveling to the opening of her Chinese restaurant six years after Sam’s passing. On June 6, 2015, she witnesses an astrologer’s suicide [a]. She seeks a Daoshi to speak with Sam’s spirit after sensing his presence. In the meantime, Raghunandhan and his half-sister Aishwarya are suing their estranged brother Srini in Hyderabad to claim 70% of their father’s ₹2,500 crore estate, which is worth ₹38 billion or US$440 million in 2023. Debbie is simultaneously transported to the spirit world by the Daoshi, where she observes Sam confined and writes “help.” At the same time, Srini, who had fallen from the flat to his death, wakes up. Debbie hints at a strange connection when she writes, “This will repeat” underneath a doublet image of Srini’s face.
Six years after Srini’s accident, on June 6, 2021, Daoshi suggests that Debbie do a Mahakala Mahayana Pooja for Srini, who is in a vegetative state and being cared for by Sam’s father, Dr. Richard. In an attempt to inherit 70% of Srini’s estate, Raghu gets a court order for her passive euthanasia. Debbie cautions Raghu, meanwhile, that hurting Srini will guarantee his own demise. After being created from the same atom, Raghu and Srini are cosmically connected and destined to die together, which is a startling realization. Their entwined destiny stem from the 2015 occurrence in which Raghu also survived a catastrophic accident that was identical to Srini’s, but Srini also survived his own.
A mysterious book called Unsung King of a Fallen Kingdom that Sam and Raghavan (Srini’s friend) had previously read is the result of Richard and Debbie’s investigation. This book had only been checked out once in six years, and the borrower passed away inexplicably on June 6. A librarian always found the book and brought it back to the library. Subsequent investigation reveals Raghavan’s script, “Demonte Colony,” which describes a malevolent force that traps the spirits of the dead and kills the chain’s holder. Richard begs Raghu to step in and end the cycle so that his son’s soul might rest in peace.
In order to keep Demonte from becoming even more terrified, Debbie, Raghu, and Dhayalan protect the Demonte residence. After hearing a scream, Raghu, Dhayalan, and the inspector dash into the house in defiance of the Daoshi’s warning. When Raghu arrives, the three female spirits who are holding the four imprisoned girls disappear. One of the females, Adithi, recounts that after reading the enigmatic book, they were teleported out of their hostel. According to Dhayalan’s inquiry, the book’s source is librarian Alphonse. Adithi admits to putting the chain in Raghu’s coat covertly after chanting hymns to get it. The daoshi, fearing for Srini’s life, instructs the monks to perform Mahayana pooja, utilising the phurba if necessary.
After becoming stranded at the restaurant, Raghu, Debbie, and the daoshi see a film of Raghu becoming possessed and murdering them. They learn about the Sigil of Baphomet, which is associated with Satanic worship, as the video stops abruptly. Richard is strangled to death as the daoshi starts rites while the chain warms up, upsetting Raghu. Demonte’s spirit arrives, kills the daoshi, and possesses his body to attack Debbie. The possessed daoshi is killed by Raghu with the help of the Mahayana pooja. Dhayalan and Adithi track Raghu and Debbie, only to find an empty restaurant. Raghu breaks a window but finds them trapped. A swarm of bats attacks, prompting Debbie to recall the buried Mahakala statue. As they plan to break the glass dome above the Mahakala statue, Sam’s
Raghu gives Debbie the phone so she may call Dhayalan. Srini is possessed by Demonte’s spirit, which interrupts the ceremony and starts the sacrifice by setting the daoshi on fire. Adithi and Dhayalan get there in time to save Debbie. The human sacrifice is interrupted in the middle as a monk steps in and knocks the phurba against the wall. When the police show up, the chain is gone once more. Raghu goes into a coma while Srini recovers. Debbie discloses Demonte’s actual goal, which Adithi confirms, to provide the sacrifice for a Portuguese ruler in the fifteenth century. The haunting home of librarian Alphonse Gerald, who tormented and sacrificed himself to please Demonte, is found. The dark cycle is revealed by the pictures of the yearly sacrifices made to Demonte.
A shadowy person, thought to be Alphonse, is spotted limping across rural Bihar while carrying pictures of victims who have been slaughtered. The figure offers it to Satan after killing another person. In a post-credits sequence, Srini makes the decision to track down Demonte, his family, and their relationship to him in order to break the curse and rescue Raghu by June 6, 2027.
