R. Ajay Gnanamuthu, born on September 15, 1988, is an Indian film director and screenwriter primarily active in Tamil cinema. He began his career by assisting the renowned filmmaker A. R. Murugadoss on projects like “7aum Arivu” and “Thuppakki.”
Gnanamuthu made his directorial debut in 2015 with the horror-thriller “Demonte Colony,” which received positive reviews. His second venture was the crime thriller “Imaikkaa Nodigal” in 2018, which further established his reputation as a promising director in the industry.
Raised in Chennai, Gnanamuthu completed his schooling at St. John’s High School and St. Patrick’s Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School before pursuing his higher education at Loyola College. It was during his college days, while studying visual communications, that he developed a passion for filmmaking and began creating short films.
Gnanamuthu’s talent was recognized when he participated in the short film-making competition “Naalaya Iyakunar Season-1” in 2010, where he emerged as one of the finalists. This paved the way for him to join A. R. Murugadoss’s team as an assistant director, where he gained valuable experience working on major film projects.
In 2022, Gnanamuthu directed “Cobra,” showcasing his versatility as a filmmaker. With a promising career ahead, he continues to captivate audiences with his unique storytelling and directorial skills.
