Plot
Panduranga “Pandu” Rao works as an amateur investigator at the Ramachandra Murthy-run Universal investigator Agency in Visakhapatnam. He calls himself “James Pond,” fashions his appearance after James Bond, and regards James Bond as his idol.
Inspector Saumitri of the local police department and his aide Ganapathi are among his colleagues who do not hold Pandu in high regard. Pandu has affections for Jwala, a freelance phone cleaner. Although she doesn’t take his professional qualities seriously, she still thinks highly of him as a friend.
When Jwala goes to a businessman’s house to clean his phone, she sometimes finds herself carrying a handgun rather than a phone receiver. She is charged with the businessman’s murder and the theft of the gems he owned.
Pandu starts working on the case, but Murthy, a detective assigned by the police, gets in the way. Pandu is unflinching and keeps with his covert investigation. In the meantime, Jwala’s surgeon buddy Nischala sets up her bail release.
Pandu summons Jwala to his office for an interrogation as part of his inquiry, but everything goes terribly wrong. Pandu learns, however, that on the day of the murder, Jwala saw a Maruti car of a chocolate brown color parked outside the businessman’s residence.
He sees Murthy driving a comparable vehicle and making contacts with jewelers outside of Visakhapatnam. As Pandu grows suspicious, he enlists Saumitri’s assistance to spy on Murthy. Murthy is later apprehended after they witness him admitting to the crime to a jeweler. After that, Pandu is named director of the Universal Detective Agency.
Nischala approaches Pandu with a case on Jwala’s advice: to locate her half brother, Chantabbai (younger one), who has gone missing. Nischala’s father Gangadharam and his mistress Sharmishta gave birth to Chantabbai outside of marriage.
Afterwards, Gangadharam was forced to wed Nischala’s mother, who succeeded in keeping them separated till her death. Gangadharam’s condition is rapidly getting worse, thus Nischala wants to bring Chantabbai in front of him so he can be pleased.
When Pandu investigates, he discovers that Sharmistha and Chantabbai were temporarily looked after by Gangadharam’s friend Ramkoti. Pandu discovers via his investigation that Ramkoti had two sons, Pattabhi and Kalyan, and that he preferred the younger.
After coming to the conclusion that Kalyan is Gangadharam’s son, Pandu welcomes him to the household. Pattabhi visits Gangadharam’s home a few days later and introduces himself as Chantabbai.
Pandu is taken aback by the result and makes multiple attempts to determine who the true successor . Although there are several reasons why they fail, Pandu concludes that they are both con artists based on the results of a blood test that they both falsified.
Both are banished from Gangadharam’s home, and the brothers vow retaliation. Pandu and Jwala, in the meantime, fall in love and start making plans for marriage.
Nischala tells Pandu one day that Chantabbai’s aunt Bala has come to Visakhapatnam for a family gathering. When Pandu visits Bala, he finds out that his mother was the Sharmistha that Gangadharam cherished.
When Pandu discovers he is Chantabbai, he remembers the struggles he had as a youngster and how society shunned him because of his paternity. If Pandu’s portion of the fortune he would receive isn’t donated to the orphanage he oversees in the city, he won’t go back to Gangadharam’s seat as his son. Nischala mediates and accepts the requirement.
In the meantime, Pandu is abducted by Kalyan and Pattabhi, who demand a ransom from Gangadharam. Pandu receives a letter outlining his situation and asking for help.
But Ganapathi sees the number “1” scribbled on the sheet, and he begins to read the message’s initial letters with the other person. What they discover is a directive to inform the abductors that he is not the true heir to Gangadharam.
The plan is carried out by Gangadharam, and Pandu guides the brothers to a home. They proceed to kidnap Gangadharam after noticing him playing cards with his pal there. But Saumitri shows there and takes them into custody. As the movie comes to a close, Gangadharam marries Jwala and accepts Pandu as his son.
