Sutti Veerabhadra Rao, also known as Mamidipalli Veerabhadra Rao, was a highly regarded South Indian film actor renowned for his comedic and character roles. He was not only a prominent actor but also a celebrated radio and theater artist. Veerabhadra Rao’s early life saw him born as the only son in a family with two younger sisters, originating from the East Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh. He later moved to Vijayawada due to his father’s occupation and completed his schooling at ‘AKTP school,’ ultimately graduating from Andhra University through ‘SRR College’ in Vijayawada.
Veerabhadra Rao’s career unfolded with his collaboration with Jandhyala during his college days. He was an enthusiastic theater artist and ventured into acting, participating in numerous stage plays. His journey led him to become an employee of All India Radio (AIR) in Vijayawada, where he continued his theatrical pursuits. He performed in plays broadcast from AIR and collaborated with notable figures in Telugu theater and literature. In 1981, he made his entry into the Telugu film industry, and his notable success came with the film “Naalugu Sthambaalata” in 1982, solidifying his reputation as a talented actor. Over a short-lived but impactful career, he appeared in 200+ films and became known for his lengthy dialogues and versatile roles, working alongside many leading actors of his time.
Sadly, he passed away at the age of 41, due to a heart attack, after shooting for the film “Choopulu Kalisina Subhavela.” Veerabhadra Rao’s legacy continues to be celebrated in Indian cinema. He left behind a rich personal life, having married Sekhari in 1970 and raising two children. His philanthropic spirit, love for literature, and commitment to helping those in need characterize his life outside of acting.
