Dasari Janaki, professionally known as Dubbing Janaki, is an accomplished Indian actress and voice artist who has made significant contributions to both the film and television industries in various South Indian languages. Born in Peddapuram, East Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh, Janaki’s journey into the entertainment world began at a young age, as she started participating in stage shows when she was just 9 years old. Although her birth name is Dasari Janaki, the media coined the name “Dubbing Janaki” to distinguish her from other contemporaries, such as actress Sowcar Janaki and singer S. Janaki.
In 1964, she married Ramakrishnan, a military employee, and moved to Chennai. The couple had two sons and a daughter, but her husband sadly passed away in 1997. Presently, Dubbing Janaki resides with her children’s family in Chennai. Her career in the entertainment industry commenced in 1958, with her first film being “Bhookailas,” produced by AVM. Notably, she made a mark as a dubbing artist by lending her voice for the role of Kasturba in the Telugu film “Gandhi.” Throughout her acting career, she played vital roles, such as a maid in the acclaimed film “Sankarabharanam” (1980), which led to her being cast in similar roles. She is particularly recognized for her portrayals of motherly characters in movies like “Sagara Sangamam” (1983) and “Swati Kiranam.”
