Vijay Babu is an Indian film producer, actor, and businessman known for his work in the Malayalam film industry. He is the founder of Friday Film House, a prominent production company in Kerala.
Born in Kollam, Kerala, Vijay Babu attended St. Jude School and later graduated from Loyola College, Chennai. He initially pursued a career in media, working with STAR India in Mumbai and later as the COO of Asianet and Sitara TV in Hyderabad. In 2009, he returned to Kerala as the Vice President of Surya TV.
In 2013, Vijay Babu transitioned into the Malayalam film industry as an actor and producer. He gained recognition for producing and starring in several successful films, including “Philips and the Monkey Pen,” “Aadu,” and “Angamaly Diaries.” His production house, Friday Film House, won several Kerala State Film Awards in 2014.
Vijay Babu’s career faced controversy in 2022 when he was accused of sexual and physical abuse by a newcomer actress. He denied the allegations and left India, with authorities issuing a lookout circular for him. Despite criticism, some men’s rights groups supported him, citing concerns about the one-sided nature of such accusations. However, his actions, including naming his accuser in violation of Indian law, led to additional charges and criticism. While there were calls for his expulsion from the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), the organization did not take action, prompting criticism from some members who subsequently left the association.
