“Miss Shetty Mr. Polishetty” revolves around Anvitha Shetty (Anushka Shetty), a London-based masterchef who shuns the idea of love and marriage but dreams of becoming a mother. Her dying mother’s concerns about her ending up alone strike a chord, prompting Anvitha to consider motherhood via a sperm donor. Enter Sidhu Polishetty (Naveen Polishetty), a stand-up comedian who seems to embody all the qualities she seeks in a donor. However, as she investigates his genes, Sidhu mistakes her interest for love.
The film kicks into high gear when Sidhu enters the picture, injecting humor and wit into the story. While the writing occasionally relies on double entendres, Naveen’s impeccable delivery and body language keep the humor engaging. Most of the plot is predictable, but the characters manage to captivate the audience’s interest. Anvitha’s relationship with her mother could have been better developed, as it’s often told rather than shown.
One of the film’s drawbacks is that it reveals Anvitha’s desire to be a single mother in the trailer, diminishing the element of surprise. Consequently, when her friend and Sidhu react strongly to this revelation, the audience remains unfazed. The movie then treads a conventional path as Sidhu struggles to gain Anvitha’s trust, lacking the chemistry needed to elevate the story.
Naveen delivers a solid performance in a role that suits him remarkably well, with minor hiccups in emotional scenes. Anushka shines as an independent woman averse to emotional baggage. Radhan’s music, while decent, doesn’t significantly enhance the narrative, except for the catchy “Hathavidhi.” Tulsi, as Sidhu’s mom, provides hilarity in some scenes, while the dependable Murli Sharma, who portrays Sidhu’s father, shines in the pre-climax.
“Miss Shetty Mr. Polishetty” is a mixed bag that introduces an unconventional theme in Telugu cinema but struggles with the clichéd tropes of romantic comedies. The film’s humor, driven by Naveen’s performance, manages to engage the audience, despite its predictability. While it falls short in some aspects, the film still offers an entertaining experience with its comedy and characters.
