Story: Bachchala Malli is a very smart kid from a young age. But as his father marries another woman, he goes crazy, leaves education, and becomes a fit-for-nothing guy. As he grows up, Malli falls for a lovely girl played by Amrutha Iyer. He decides to change for good and leaves all the bad habits. But his past, enemies in the village, and fate have different things to do in his life. What is Bachchala Malli’s life by the end of it is the basic story of the film.
Performances: Allari Naresh is a versatile actor and we all know that. He plays a very rugged character in the film and is impressive. Be it his look, dialogue delivery, or action, Naresh does well and carries the film on his shoulders. His performance in the climax of the film was good. Amritha Iyer gets a good role and looks neat. Her screen presence is neat. Rohini as a mother is getting the same roles and does not create any impact in the film. Rao Ramesh was good as the heroine’s friend. Hari Teja gets a solid role and she was very good in the film. Praveen was also good and the main villain was not that effective.
Technical Aspects: Bachchala Malli’s production values are pretty good. The bygone era has been showcased on a good note. Vishal Chandrasekhar’s music is very good as the songs sit nicely into the narrative. The dialogues are very good and those written for Naresh were solid. The editing is a bit dull in the second half. The story of Bachchala Malli has an honest point but the screenplay is dull and not arresting. The camera work is very good and the action blocks are nice.
Analysis: Bachchala Malli is director Subbu’s new film and he has chosen Allari Naresh in a rugged role. The film is about a man whose father has distanced his family and this affects him big time. How he becomes worse and how he makes a comeback in life thanks to a girl is the basic story of the film. The core point of the film is good but the execution is not that great.
The family drama is good and so are the emotions. But the scenes are predictable. Films with such subjects need to be told in a very engaging manner and that does not happen in Bachchala Malli as it takes its own sweet time to grow on us. The pace is slow and the proceedings are quite predictable making things routine for us to watch on screen. While the few twists are okay, the rest of the narration by Subbu is ordinary. How the hero’s life turns and the problems he goes through are not that great.
Allari Naresh does well to hold on to the problems but sadly, they do not create much of an impact. The film leans heavily on familiar elements and clichés often found in rural dramas. While there are occasional moments that show promise, the director struggles to develop them effectively, resulting in a lack of lasting impact.
Allari Naresh delivers a commendable performance, and the music is decent. The script’s heartfelt intent is evident, but with an unengaging screenplay, the film falls short. It stands as a sincere effort that missed the mark in execution.
Verdict: Overall, Bachchala Malli is an honest attempt that has a sincere performance by Allari Naresh. A few emotions click and the visuals and climax are good. But the rest of the presentation is routine and ordinary.
