Story:

C. V. Kumar co-wrote, produced, and directed the 2017 Indian science fiction thriller Maayavan in the Tamil language. Lavanya Tripathi and Sundeep Kishan play the lead roles in the movie, with Jackie Shroff, Daniel Balaji, Mime Gopi, R. Amarendran, Bagavathi Perumal, and Jayaprakash playing supporting parts.

Ghibran wrote the film’s soundtrack, while Gopi Amarnath handled the photography and Leo John Paul handled the editing. The movie premiered in February 2016 and was made available on December 14, 2017. In Telugu, it was called Project Z. At the Chennai box office, the movie had a mediocre opening.

Plot
The movie opens with Pramodh (R. Amarendran), a well-known neurologist, passing away. Dheena, his personal fitness instructor (Sai Dheena), is spotted attending the funeral and then departing. The story then centers on Sundeep Kishan’s character, a young crime inspector named Kumaran, who is pursuing a small-time burglar when he observes Dheena killing his wife.

As Kumaran pursues Dheena, she corners him and strikes him in the head, stopping him. After a struggle, Kumaran succeeds in killing Dheena. He has a harsh meeting with psychiatrist Aadhirai (Lavanya Tripathi), who declares him medically unable to return to the police force. Afterwards, when he experiences PTSD-related symptoms, he makes amends with Aadhirai, who aids in his recovery.

Akshara Gowda’s character, Vishma, a well-known actress, is murdered in a second murder. When Kumaran goes to the scene, he is alarmed and worried to see that the murderer smoked the same brand of cigarette and that there are bloodstains similar to those from the previous murder.

The second murder occurs, with Narayanan (Kathi Ravi), a scientist, as the victim. While searching Narayanan’s house for scraps of evidence, Kumaran discovers a book that Rudhran wrote. When Kumaran visits Rudhran’s office, he notices that his demeanor has altered, leading him to believe that Rudhran may know the scientist. In addition to smoking, which he has just started doing with the same brand that was used in the previous killings, his dog begins to bark at him.

According to Kumaran, something weird is going on, and Rudhran might end up dead or turn into the next murderer. When Rudhran kills his dog and displays his more callous and brutal side, he is apprehended. Rudhran is taken into captivity by Kumaran. Rudhran signs a different name on the FIR but later corrects it to his own. As Kumaran observes this, he discovers that the initial sign bore the signature “Pramodh”.

After a little inquiry, it is discovered that Pramodh was a late Narayanan colleague. At the Indian Institute of Neurosciences, they collaborated. Velayudham (Jayaprakash), a senior official, reveals that Pramodh worked on a project called Maayavan, which involved creating a hard drive that could store memories and be injected with a gel that contained millions of nano-transmitters to transfer those memories to another person.

Pramodh puts in long hours of work to validate his theory. He puts a patient into a coma during this experiment, but he is more concerned with completing his goal than caring about human life. Narayanan halts Pramodh’s project after he is appointed Director of the Indian Institute of Neurosciences. Pramodh uploads his memories to a hard disk, uses himself as the subject, and ends his life.

His memories are passed to his trainer, Gopi, and finally Rudhran once he passes away. After figuring this out, Kumaran discovers that Major Sathyan, an Army general (Jackie Shroff), is the next target. Living in Rudhran’s body, Pramodh ends his own life and enters Sathyan’s head. Kumaran is invited by Sathyan, who claims that no one can stop him because of his technology, which will enable him to live for over a millennium.

Kumaran discovers Pramodh’s hidden lab, where his memories are kept, thanks to a tip from Pramodh’s wife. After Pramodh successfully recovers the hard drive holding his memories, he kills Karna (Bagavathi Perumal), Kumaran’s buddy, and uses him as a blackmailer. After robbing Velayudham, he proceeds to the institute’s lab in order to change his body. When Kumaran finds him, there is a shootout.

Kumaran finally understands that the topic of Aadhirai comes up next. Kumaran will have to make a difficult decision since Pramodh’s memories will move to Aadhirai’s body in the event that Sathyan dies. Twenty years later, Kumaran and Aadhirai, who is celebrating her 40th birthday with their son, are happily married. It is revealed that Kumaran has managed to keep Sathyan alive by imprisoning him in his basement.
