Daniel Balaji, whose real name is T. C. Balaji, is an Indian actor and writer, mainly known for his work in Tamil and Malayalam films.
Born in Chennai to a Telugu father and Tamil mother, Daniel Balaji pursued a film direction course at the Taramani film institute in Chennai. He comes from a family associated with the film industry, with his uncle being Kannada film director Siddalingaiah and his nephew being the actor Atharvaa.
Daniel Balaji began his career as a unit production manager for Kamal Haasan’s unreleased film “Marudhanayagam.” He later made his acting debut in the television serial “Chithi,” playing a character named Daniel. His success in this role led to him being called Daniel Balaji in his next serial “Alaigal.”
In Tamil cinema, he appeared in films like “April Maadhathil” and “Kaadhal Kondein.” His breakthrough came with the role of a police officer in Gautham Vasudev Menon’s “Kaakha Kaakha,” starring alongside Suriya. He continued to gain acclaim for his performance as the antagonist Amudhan in Menon’s blockbuster film “Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu” opposite Kamal Haasan.
Daniel Balaji’s success continued with movies like “Polladhavan” and a villainous role in the Telugu film “Chirutha.” He also played the lead role in “Muthirai.”
He made his entry into Malayalam cinema with the film “Black” and went on to portray negative characters in “Bhagavan” (opposite Mohanlal) and “Daddy Cool” (opposite Mammootty).
