Early Life:
M. Jayakumar, a documentary filmmaker, gave birth to Siva in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. He is the descendant of author and producer A. K. Velan. He is a Thanjavur Nayak descendent. His brother Bala performs as an actor in Malayalam and Tamil movies. Vishaka Hari, a Carnatic musician, and N. Panchapakesan, the creator of Chennai Sai Sankara Matrimonials, are distant relatives of Siva.
Film career:
Despite his lifelong desire to work in movies, he focused on photography. Siva graduated with a gold medal from the M.G.R. Government Film and Television Training Institute in 1998. He later collaborated with the director of photography Jayanan Vincent. Siva then travelled to Hyderabad to work as an operational cameraman on Venkatesh’s 2000 film Jayam Manade Raa. He started working as a freelance cameraman in 2002, not long after his brother Bala made his acting debut. Since then, he has shot for roughly 15 films.
He read a script to Gopichand, an actor who agreed to play the major part, in 2008. The film Souryam, in which Gopichand and Anushka Shetty co-starred, served as Siva’s debut as a filmmaker. The next year, Siva produced his second movie, which once more starred Gopichand. Siruthai, a Tamil adaptation of S. S. Rajamouli’s Telugu action blockbuster Vikramarkudu, was Siva’s directorial debut in 2011. Karthi played the lead in the movie, which went on to become a commercial success. As a result, he was known as “Siruthai” Siva in Tamil cinema moving forward. Daruvu, his fourth film as a director, was released in May 2012.
Vijaya Productions hired Siva in December 2011 to direct a movie honouring the company’s centenary, with Ajith Kumar cast in the lead. Production on the film, which Ajith Kumar urged Siva to produce as a rural tale, started in 2013. He played the lead in the smash hit movie Veeram (2014), which he also directed. Vedhalam (2015), his third Tamil film, was a family-friendly movie that starred Ajith and an ensemble cast that also included Shruti Hassan and Rahul Dev. Again starring Ajith Kumar, his fourth Tamil film, Vivegam (2017), was released. Mixed reviews followed its August 2017 release.
Despite being released alongside Petta, his next film with Ajith Kumar, Viswasam (2019), which was made by Sathya Jyothi Films, was a tremendous success. On November 4, 2021, the day before Diwali, he released Annaatthe, a failed movie starring Rajinikanth.
