Nivetha Thomas debuted in the well-known Sun TV series My Dear Bootham as a young actress. Then, in Veruthe Oru Bharya, she portrayed Jayaram’s daughter, and her performance there was warmly received. She later agreed to appear in a few Tamil and Malayalam films, primarily in supporting roles. She worked on Malayalam films like Chaappa Kurish and Thattathin Marayathu, the latter of which Sify claimed would be “the biggest box-office hit in Malayalam cinema history.” She played Tamizhselvi, a worker at a petrol bunk, in Samuthirakani’s 2011 Tamil film Poraali.Samuthirakani and she had previously worked together on the drama series Arasi.
Thomas starred in Romans in 2013, a movie that Sify.com called a “blockbuster” due to its popularity. She portrayed the female lead, Jaishree, an aspiring singer, in the contemporary fantasy comedy Naveena Saraswathi Sabatham, which was produced in Tamil. She portrayed Mahalakshmi in Jilla, a character who is very close to her father (Mohanlal) and two brothers (Vijay and Mahath).She described her part as being “a strong-willed girl who influences her brother in a positive way,” not “just another sister role,” in response to the question. She signed on to star in Juliet Lover of an Idiot, a Telugu film directed by Ajay Vodhirala. Viewers praised her performance as Kamal Haasan’s eldest daughter in the Tamil version of Drishyam, dubbed Papanasam.
Thomas made her Telugu film debut in the 2016 action thriller Gentleman with Nani. The film debuted to rousing acclaim, and both critics and viewers praised Thomas’ performance. She won several awards for it, including the SIIMA Award for Best Female Debut (Telugu) at the 6th South Indian International Movie Awards and a Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Telugu Nomination at the 64th Filmfare Awards South. She then became well-known in Telugu film.
Her first release in 2017 was Ninnu Kori, a romantic comedy starring Nani again, which received positive reviews upon its initial release. Critics praised her portrayal of “pallavi,” which led to her second Filmfare Award nomination for Best Actress – Telugu at the 65th Filmfare Awards South.Her subsequent film, Jai Lava Kusa, starred Jr. One of the highest-grossing films at the box office in 2017 was NTR. Her most recent film, Juliet Lover of an Idiot, starring Naveen Chandra, was postponed and released later. It was a box office flop. Thomas went on to play Nikhil Siddharth in the love drama Swaasa in October 2018.
The action thriller 118, in which Thomas starred with Nandamuri Kalyan Ram, was his first release of 2019. It debuted to good reviews, and critics commended Thomas highly for his outstanding work in the small but impactful role. Later, she co-starred with Sree Vishnu in the black comedy film Brochevarevarura. The movie debuted to great reviews and received praise for its portrayal of “mitra,” a student who struggles in class but wants to be a classical dancer.
Rajinikanth’s Darbar, in which Thomas acted and played his daughter, was released in 2020. Later same year, she also starred in the action film V, which Indraganti directed. Thomas appears in the Telugu version of the Hindi film Pink, Vakeel Saab, starring Pawan Kalyan, in 2021.Along with Regina Cassandra, Thomas acted in the Telugu version of the Korean movie Midnight Runners, Saakini Daakini, which was directed by Sudheer Varma.
