Ramajogayya Sastry, a renowned Indian film lyricist, has made a significant mark in Telugu cinema and the music industry. Born on August 24, 1970, in Arepalli Muppalla, Ipuru Mandal near Narasaraopet in Guntur district, he hails from a family where his father worked as a priest and agriculturist, and his mother was a homemaker. Sastry’s educational background includes a B.Tech. degree from REC Warangal and an M.Tech. from IIT Kharagpur. His early career involved working as a metallurgical engineer at GE India Business Center in Secunderabad.
As a lyricist, Ramajogayya Sastry has contributed to over a hundred Telugu films, earning widespread recognition in Andhra Pradesh. He is known for his versatile lyricism, ranging from peppy and catchy songs to those with more profound and serious themes. Sastry initially aspired to be a singer but transitioned into a successful lyricist. His journey began when he wrote lyrics for a Kannada film, and later, he was introduced to the renowned lyricist Sirivennela Sitaramasastri through Krishna Vamsi.
Under Sitaramasastri’s mentorship, Sastry honed his lyric-writing skills. His career took off with the song “Om Namaste Bolo” from the film “Ready,” which catapulted him to stardom. He has received several awards and accolades for his work, including a Filmfare award for the devotional song “Sadaasiva Sanyaasii!” from the film “Khaleja.” His contributions to the Telugu film industry continue, with notable works like “Apple Beauty” and “Jayaho Janatha” from the movie “Janatha Garage” and the title song “Mira Mira Meesam” for “Katamarayudu,” among others.
