Biography:
Alexander Carey Shrapnel (born 6 October 1979) is an English actor.
He was born in London as the second of three sons of actor John Shrapnel and Francesca Ann (née Bartley). His brothers are director and writer Tom Shrapnel and writer Joe Shrapnel. On his mother’s side, he is the grandson of Academy Award-nominated actress Deborah Kerr. Shrapnel trained at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.
His screen credits include roles in K-19: The Widowmaker, Nine Lives, Thunderbirds, Breakfast on Pluto, Flyboys, Ministry of Mayhem, and The Last Detective. He also featured in the Doctor Who audio drama Shadow of the Past.
On stage, Shrapnel earned praise for his performance as Hotspur in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s 2008 production of Henry IV, described by critics as “thrillingly charismatic.” In 2011, he appeared in Terence Rattigan’s The Deep Blue Sea at the West Yorkshire Playhouse. Reflecting on his theatre work, he remarked: “Before going in you set a high bar for yourself, but you’ve just got to get into rehearsals, do the work, and hope it comes together.”
