American actress Jennifer Shrader Lawrence was born on August 15, 1990. Her roles in independent dramas and action movie franchises have earned her recognition, and her films have brought in over $6 billion globally. The highest-paid actress in the world in 2015 and 2016, she was listed in Time’s 2013 list of the 100 most influential people in the world and in Forbes Celebrity 100 from 2013 to 2016.
As a teenager, Lawrence made television cameos to start her career. Her primary role during the 2007–2009 sitcom run of The Bill Engvall Show was her first significant one. Her breakout performance came in the independent film Winter’s Bone (2010), where she played a poor adolescent, following her feature debut in the drama Garden Party (2008). Lawrence became well-known for her roles as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games (2012) and the mutant Mystique in The X-Men (2011–2019) film series. She is now the highest-grossing action heroine thanks to the latter.
Lawrence worked with director David O. Russell on three movies that brought her multiple awards. At age 22, she became the second-youngest Academy Award winner in the category for her portrayal of a troubled young widow in the romance Silver Linings Playbook (2012). Lawrence, who portrayed an erratic wife in the dark comedy American Hustle (2013), took home the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.
In addition, she won a Golden Globe for both roles, as well as for playing businesswoman Joy Mangano in the 2015 biopic Joy. A brief hiatus from acting was brought on by a string of poorly received movies and media criticism of her choice of roles. Following her comeback with the streaming movie Don’t Look Up (2021), Lawrence produced and acted in the comedies No Hard Feelings (2023) and Causeway (2022).
Lawrence supports women’s reproductive rights and is a feminist. She established the Jennifer Lawrence Foundation in 2015, which supports Special Olympics and the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. In 2018, Lawrence founded Excellent Cadaver, a production firm. She has participated in RepresentUs’ anti-corruption videos as a spokesperson and is an active member of the nonprofit, nonpartisan group.
On August 15, 1990, Jennifer Shrader Lawrence was born in Indian Hills, Kentucky, to Karen (née Koch), a summer camp manager, and Gary, the owner of a construction company. Ben and Blaine are her two older brothers.[6] Her mother brought her up to be “tough” like her brothers and prevented her from playing with other preschool girls because she thought she was “too rough” with them.
Lawrence attended Louisville’s Kammerer Middle School. Because of her hyperactivity and social anxiety, she did not enjoy her upbringing and saw herself as different from her peers. Lawrence has claimed that going on stage made her feel accomplished and that her fears disappeared. She participated in cheerleading, softball, field hockey, and basketball at school, where she was a member of her father’s boys team.
Lawrence enjoyed riding horses as a child and often went to a nearby horse farm.[10] She was thrown from a horse and had injuries to her tailbone. She performed for her father as he worked from home, frequently dressing up as a clown or dancer. At nine years old, Lawrence took on her first acting role in a church production based on the Book of Jonah, where she played a prostitute. She kept participating in school musicals and church performances over the ensuing few years.
A talent scout saw 14-year-old Lawrence while she was on a family vacation in New York City and set her up for an audition with talent agencies. Although her mother did not support her acting profession, she did temporarily relocate the family to New York so that Lawrence could try out for parts. Her mother persuaded her that the agents were lying when they said that her initial cold reading was the best they had heard from a child.
Lawrence claimed that the reason her early experiences were challenging was that she felt abandoned and alone.[8] After she joined the CESD Talent Agency, her parents agreed to let her try out for parts in Los Angeles. Despite her mother’s encouragement to pursue modeling, she declined multiple modeling opportunities in favor of acting, believing it to be a “natural fit” for her skills. At the age of 14, she left school without obtaining a diploma or General Educational Development (GED). Lawrence claims to be “self-educated” and to have put her job above all else. She was an assistant nurse at her mother’s camp in Louisville, and she would frequently travel there between her acting assignments in the city.
