Biography:

K. Surendran, widely known by his stage name Indrans, is a renowned Indian actor and former costume designer primarily active in Malayalam films. He commenced his career in the film industry in 1981, initially working as a costume designer and actor. However, it was not until 1994 when he gained substantial recognition with the comedy film “CID Unnikrishnan B.A., B.Ed.” Indrans became famous for his comedic roles in the 1990s and 2000s, contributing to his popularity in the Malayalam film industry.

As his career progressed, Indrans transitioned into character roles and achieved significant acclaim. He received the National Film Awards-Special Mention for his performance in “Home” in 2023 and secured the Kerala State Film Award – Special Mention for his role in “Apothecary” in 2014. In 2018, he earned the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor for his portrayal in “Aalorukkam.” His outstanding performance in “Veyilmarangal” garnered him the Best Actor Award at the 2019 Singapore International Film Festival. By November 2021, Indrans had acted in more than 550 films.

Indrans’ journey began in Kumarapuram, Thiruvananthapuram, where he was born on March 16, 1956, as the third child among seven siblings. His early life was marked by financial struggles, leading him to learn tailoring from his uncle. Eventually, he ventured into amateur arts clubs and started acting in dramas. He initiated his acting career with the television serial “Kaliveedu” on Doordarshan. Alongside his brother, K. Jayakumar, he opened a tailoring shop called “Indran’s Brothers Tailors.”

In his personal life, Indrans married Santhakumari on February 23, 1985, and together they have a daughter named Mahitha and a son named Mahendran. Over the years, Indrans’ exceptional acting talent and diverse roles have solidified his reputation as a versatile and respected figure in Malayalam cinema.
