Born on January 24, 1983, as Immanuel Vasanth Dinakaran, better known by his stage name D. Imman, is a notable Indian film composer and singer predominantly active in Tamil cinema, as well as other film industries such as Kannada, Malayalam, Telugu, and Hindi. His musical journey began with his first film as a music director, “Thamizhan,” in 2002, and he has since contributed his musical talents to more than 100 films. Imman’s journey into music commenced at the age of 15, when he began working under the guidance of music composers Mahesh Mahadevan and Adithyan, focusing on playing the keyboard. His talents were recognized by television serial producer Kutty Padmini, leading to his involvement in composing the theme song and background music for the drama series “Krishnadasi” in 2000. This early opportunity paved the way for his work on television serials like “Kolangal,” “Police Diary,” and “Mandhira Vaasal.” His big break came with the romantic film “Kaadhale Swasam,” where he composed music and songs, earning praise from producer Venkateswaran. This success led him to his debut as a film composer for “Thamizhan” (2002), which garnered positive reviews, featuring lead actors Vijay and Priyanka Chopra lending their voices for a song.
Imman’s popularity grew with hit songs like “Azhagiya Asura” from “Whistle” (2003) and “Dai Kaiyaa Vechukittu” from “Giri” (2004). The recognition and acclaim he received for his work in Prabhu Solomon’s “Mynaa” (2010) propelled him into the spotlight and led to collaborations on subsequent projects like “Kumki” (2012) and “Kayal” (2014). His successful partnerships extended to Suseenthiran’s films such as “Pandianadu” (2013) and “Jeeva” (2014), and he continued to make his mark in collaborations with actors like Vijay in “Jilla” (2014) and Ajithkumar in the blockbuster “Viswasam” (2019). He also established a notable association with Sivakarthikeyan, composing for films such as “Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam” and “Namma Veettu Pillai.” Additionally, he worked on the music for the much-anticipated film “Annaatthe,” which marked his first collaboration with Rajinikanth.
