Plot
America is home to Bharath, a surgeon. He has a disturbing dream every night in which a bull is chasing a baby and a woman’s voice; this confuses him. Bharath chooses to be her donor when his mother needs an urgent transplant. Even still, his father admits that since he is an adopted son, it might not be feasible.
Following the successful surgery on his mother, Bharath travels to India to learn more about his parents’ origins. He finds his mother’s village and visits it after making inquiries at the orphanage where he was raised. Bharath makes the villager Gopi his buddy, and together they discover that although Bharath’s mother was actually named Kaali and died attempting to protect him from a charging bull, her name was Parvathy.
Assuming his given name Kaali, Bharath discovers that no one seems to know who his father is when he inquires about him. Consequently, he establishes a free clinic in the village and attempts to perform a DNA match on every patient that visits. There is a severe decline in the number of patients visiting Valli, a local Siddha doctor, and the villagers queue up to obtain free treatment from him. She gets offended, but then finds out about Kaali’s kindness.
As everything is going on, Gopi and Kaali are suspicious of the village chief, Periyasamy, because they are both left-handed. After getting him intoxicated, they question him about his background, discovering that a young Periyasamy was in love with his college roommate but that their parents were against them because of caste.
When they learn that his girlfriend is pregnant, they intend to flee. However, Periyasamy arrives later than anticipated because of issues at his house and rioting in the village, and his lover takes poison and perishes because she believes he deceived her. Upon learning that his girlfriend’s name is Thenmozhi from Periyasamy, Kaali comes to the realization that Periyasamy is not his father.
Later, during a fight in a neighborhood pub, Kaali and Gopi encounter “Thala Vettiyaan” Maari, a man with the tattoo “Parvathy” on his arm. When they inquire about him, he reveals that the tattoo is his girlfriend’s name. A young Maari goes to a residence in the middle of the night to steal. She is a thief. He discovers Parvathy, a woman who was forced into marriage by her abusive husband Gounder, attempting to kill him. Maari robs Parvathy of cash and jewelry while threatening her.
Parvathy follows Maari out of the house and tries to get the stolen items back, but he overwhelms her. After this occurrence, the two fall in love and attempt to elope in order to get away from Gounder. When Gounder learns of the affair, he gives his soldiers the order to murder them. As Parvathy tries to save Maari, she passes away. Maari slashes off Gounder’s head out of fury, sparking a disturbance among the villagers. Now that Kaali knows, Maari isn’t his father either.
Meanwhile, Kaali receives the results of his DNA test and discovers a match with Vellathayee, an elderly woman who might be his grandmother. When she reveals that she had a daughter who worked at the church and perished in a fire, Kaali understands that Poomayilu, not Parvathy, is his mother. He has misgivings about Father John, a kind man well-liked by all the villagers. In an attempt to match John’s DNA, Kaali reads his private journal and discovers details about his background. The village welcomes a young John who wants to become a Christian priest.
He learns that there is still casteism in the community and that abuse is still happening to people. He educates the locals to be together and does away with the caste system. Gounder is among the upper caste folks who find this objectionable. John is thrashed by his goon Das, and Poomayilu looks after him as he heals.
As she falls into bed beside John, John holds her hands and they unintentionally make love, which results in Poomayilu getting pregnant. After confessing his transgressions to a priest, John makes a last-ditch effort to persuade Poomayilu to elope with him. She still refuses, claiming that John is the only reason the village is unified and that if he departs now, they will revert to their previous ways.
In the midst of this discussion, Das lights fire to every cottage belonging to the lower caste society after Maari killed Gounder. A group of individuals get into a riot, and a lot of them burn to death. After being detained, Das swears to exact revenge on John. Poomayilu is thought to be deceased as well.
After John becomes a priest, he has been fulfilling Poomayilu’s request by serving the village ever since. In actuality, Poomayilu had given birth to Kaali, left the village without anybody knowing, and lived as Parvathy until the end of her life.
