Asin Thottumkal

Biography:

Asin Thottumkal (born October 26, 1985), also known just by her first name Asin, is a former Indian actress who primarily worked in Tamil, Hindi, and Telugu films. She has experience dancing Bharatanatyam. Three Filmfare Awards have been given to her. She started out in the South Indian film business but then turned to Bollywood for her acting work. She is a multilingual woman.

With Sathyan Anthikkad’s Malayalam film Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka (2001), Asin had her acting debut at the age of 15. The following year, in 2003, she achieved her first commercial hit with the Telugu film Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi, for which she received a Filmfare Best Telugu Actress Award. Her debut in Tamil, M. Kumaran Son of Mahalakshmi (2004), was a big hit. For her most renowned and critically acclaimed performance in her third Tamil film, Ghajini (2005), she won the Filmfare Best Tamil Actress Award.

The action films Sivakasi (2005), Varalaru (2006), Pokkiri (2007), Vel (2008), and Dasavathaaram (2008) stand out among the others as she established herself as Tamil cinema’s leading actress. She was also given the Kalaimamani award by the Tamil Nadu government for her excellence in the fields of art and literature. Asin received the Pride of South Indian Cinema award at SIIMA in 2013 in recognition of her work in Tamil cinema.
