Indian actor Ashwin Kakumanu is well recognized for playing Ganeshan in Venkat Prabhu’s Mankatha.
When Ashwin first went for a role, it was for Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa. The assistant directors of the film, Gautham Vasudev Menon, observed Ashwin and suggested that he be cast as Arjun, Sameera Reddy’s character’s boyfriend in Nadunisi Naaygal. Menon was on the verge of handing Ashwin the role. Later, Ashwin Kakumanu starred with Ajith Kumar, Arjun Sarja, and Vaibhav Reddy in Venkat Prabhu’s Mankatha. In lieu of Ganesh Venkatraman, who had withdrawn from the movie, Ashwin made an appearance as a Dharavi police officer. Next, Ashwin starred with Suriya and Shruti Haasan as a young scientist in A. R. Murugadoss’s 7aum Arivu.
Additionally, he made an appearance in the supporting character of Prateik Babbar and Amy Jackson in Gautham Menon’s Ekk Deewana Tha.
In the 2013 comedy film Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara, Ashwin landed his first major part. He later starred in the Ilaiyaraaja musical Megha. The supernatural thriller Zero, which stars Ashwin as a social worker, the Ashok Amritraj-directed Thiri, and the M. Sadiq Khan-directed “romantic comedy film with a social message” Thollaikatchi are some of his forthcoming endeavors. He portrays Senthan Amuthan in Mani Ratnam’s Magnum Opus Ponniyin Selvan.
