Silk Smitha, whose real name was Vijayalakshmi Vadlapati, was a prominent and iconic figure in the South Indian film industry, particularly in the 1980s and early 1990s. Born on December 2, 1960, in Andhra Pradesh, India, she gained immense popularity for her bold and seductive roles in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada films.

Smitha began her career as a supporting actress but quickly rose to fame due to her sensuous screen presence and captivating performances. She was often referred to as the “Silk” Smitha, a name she adopted from one of her most famous films, “Vandi Chakkaram,” in which she played the role of Silk.

Despite her success, Smitha’s personal life was marred by challenges and difficulties. She faced financial issues and struggled with depression, ultimately leading to her tragic death by suicide on September 23, 1996, at the age of 35.
