Theatre“Youth” is a 2002 Indian Tamil-language romantic drama directed by Vincent Selva, serving as the Tamil remake of the Telugu film “Chiru Navvutho” (2000). The film’s plot revolves around Shiva, who, on his wedding day, discovers that his bride, Aruna, has fled because she does not wish to marry a cook. Shiva relocates to Chennai with Aruna’s brother, Prabhu, in search of employment. During his stay, Shiva rescues a girl named Sandhya from some troublemakers, and she expresses her gratitude by kissing him. This act initiates Shiva’s growing affection for Sandhya, who he believes may share his feelings. However, Sandhya later announces her engagement to a computer engineer named Pratap, devastating Shiva. Despite his heartbreak, Shiva continues to care for Aruna, who had eloped with her lover but was subsequently abandoned and attempted suicide.
As the story unfolds, Sandhya realizes her true feelings for Shiva and decides she does not want to marry Pratap. Her father, unwilling to cancel the wedding, offers Shiva a substantial sum to leave Sandhya. In a clever twist, Shiva and Pratap switch roles, allowing Shiva to marry Sandhya in the end. On their wedding night, Shiva reveals his strategic plan to Sandhya, explaining that he had orchestrated a sequence of events to ensure their union, including offering Pratap the canceled check from Sandhya’s father. This heartfelt and romantic tale explores themes of love, sacrifice, and destiny, culminating in a happy ending for the lead characters.
