However, he eventually transitioned into becoming one of the most beloved comedians in Malayalam cinema. Over his illustrious career, Haneefa acted in more than 300 films in both Malayalam and Tamil.
As a director, Cochin Haneefa gained recognition for his work in films like “Aankiliyude Tharattu” in 1987 and “Vatsalyam” in 1993. He hailed from Kochi and came from a family of eight siblings. He pursued his education at Kochi St. Augustine’s School and St. Albert’s College, where he obtained a degree in commerce.
Haneefa’s acting journey began in 1972 with the film “Azhimukham,” directed by Vijayan. He went on to make appearances in over 300 Malayalam films and more than 80 Tamil films, including notable titles like “Mahanadi” with Kamal Haasan, “Sivaji,” and “Enthiran” with Rajinikanth. Despite initially portraying villainous characters, he successfully transitioned into comedic roles, with his physicality often incorporated humorously.
