Story:

“Unnaipol Oruvan” (Someone Like You), a 2009 Indian Tamil thriller film directed by Chakri Toleti, revolves around the conflict between Raghavan Maarar, a dismissed police commissioner, and an anonymous caller who has planted bombs across Chennai. The caller demands the release of three terrorists and an arms dealer, threatening simultaneous explosions if his conditions aren’t met. Maarar, now tasked as the negotiator, faces challenges in tracing the caller’s location due to advanced technology.

As Maarar races against time, he reluctantly agrees to the caller’s demands, leading to a tense exchange at the Sholavaram airstrip. However, one of Maarar’s officers, Arif Khan, decides to withhold one terrorist, aiming to extract information about the bomb locations. The caller, revealing that the other three terrorists were decoys, instructs Arif to kill the withheld terrorist. Succumbing to the pressure, Arif complies, and the caller declares the city safe.

Later, Maarar discovers the caller’s location with the help of a hacker, pursuing him to an under-construction building. In a surprising turn, Maarar and the caller reconcile, with Maarar acknowledging the caller’s injustice against a corrupt system. The caller’s identity remains undisclosed, emphasizing the moral ambiguity of the incident. Maarar reflects on the complex nature of justice and safety in a troubled society, suggesting that the unconventional resolution may have been for the best. The film received positive reviews for its gripping narrative and compelling performances from Kamal Haasan and Mohanlal.
