Karate Raja is an Indian actor known for his work primarily in Tamil-language films. His breakthrough in the film industry came when he played a supporting role in Kamal Haasan’s “Virumaandi” in 2004. It was during this time that he was bestowed with the name “Karate Raja” by Haasan himself. Following his initial success, Raja went on to appear in other popular Tamil films of the era, including “Ghilli” and “Vasool Raja MBBS” in the same year. His acting career continued with roles in various films like Prabhu Deva’s “Pokkiri” in 2007 and the horror comedy “Ambuli” in 2012.
One of his notable roles was in the film “Varnam” in 2011, and he also played a significant character as Kishore’s brother in “Thiruvambadi Thamban” in 2012. Notably, Karate Raja portrayed the lead role of Veerappan in the television serial “Sandhana Kaadu” on Makkal TV in 2008. This role was particularly challenging as it required extensive research about Veerappan’s life, along with 110 days of shooting in the forests of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
In his personal life, Karate Raja married Divya in July 2009, and the couple has three daughters. However, in August 2014, he filed a complaint with the police, reporting that his wife was missing. He later revealed that their marriage had encountered difficulties, with the couple spending only a few days together each month.
