TheatreGreg Rucka and Sarah L. Walker wrote the screenplay for The Old Guard 2, a 2025 American action movie directed by Victoria Mahoney. Rucka and Leandro Fernández’s graphic novel, The Old Guard, served as the inspiration for the film. As a follow-up to the previous movie, it features Henry Golding and Uma Thurman in addition to Charlize Theron, KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Veronica Ngô, and Chiwetel Ejiofor reprising their roles from the first movie.
Critics gave The Old Guard 2, which debuted on Netflix on July 2, 2025, largely mediocre to unfavourable reviews, claiming it was not as good as its predecessor. The movie was Skydance’s last production before company merged with Paramount Global.
Plot
An iron maiden is raised from the ocean floor off the shore of Rome, Italy. Quỳnh, an immortal who has been imprisoned inside the device for 500 years, is discovered when it is unlocked on the ship’s deck. A weapons stash is retrieved from a guarded site in Split by Andy, Joe, Nicky, Nile, and Copley six months after Booker was found guilty of loneliness. While hiding, Nile dreams that a lady in a library incapacitates someone before robbing them of their books.
Quỳnh finds Booker in Paris and kidnaps him. Andy and Copley locate a sage-immortal named Tuah in Seoul. He is an old acquaintance of Andy’s and has extensive knowledge about immortals. He disclosed that he had saved her 500 years ago when Quỳnh was being sealed in an iron maiden. He affirms that an immortal named Discord, who had turned into a very elusive armaments dealer throughout the years after splitting from Tuah, had taken his writings that included information about the immortals.
After Andy and Copley take Tuah to a hiding place in Rimini, Quỳnh sends Andy a note, sent by Booker after he was freed from jail, requesting that Andy meet him in Rome, where Quỳnh was dumped into the sea. During their uneasy reunion, Quỳnh accuses Andy of breaking her commitment to save her, and then she has a brief altercation with Andy and takes back her necklace. When Nile confronts Discord, she reveals that she was the first immortal in their planet and that Nile is the last, pointing out that their skin birthmarks are identical and connect.
According to Tuah’s theory, the “last immortal” has the ability to revoke an individual’s immortality if they cause harm to another person. Furthermore, anyone who has lost their immortality can reclaim it by transferring their power to a host of their choosing through another wounded immortal. Booker demands that Tuah keep this information from Andy after Nile grazes his forearm in a spar and his wounds stop healing, confirming the first element of the theory.
Andy and Copley find out that Quỳnh’s mercenaries and Discord have taken over a Chinese-owned nuclear station in South Tangerang and placed shaped charges inside the core. If the charges detonate, the area would be irradiated, affecting millions of people. Andy and her squad walk inside the nuclear plant to disarm the charges and eliminate the attackers, even though they know it is a trap set up by Discord.
Discord captures every member of Andy’s crew, with the exception of Nile, Booker, and Andy. The injured Booker successfully gives Andy his immortal abilities during the ensuing fight and gives his life to keep her safe. Although her eternal abilities have been restored, Andy is devastated. Before Quỳnh is also taken prisoner by Discord, Nile meets her inside the reactor core and damages her, taking away her ability to heal herself.
Andy catches up to Discord after persuading the now-mortal Quỳnh to release the detonator, and the two fight viciously. Discord admits that she has lost her immortality as well, and she is determined to use Nile to get her powers back, no matter what. She declares that she will be immortal if they cross paths again after stabbing Andy in the heart, temporarily rendering her helpless and enabling Discord to escape the facility with Andy’s abducted allies. After returning to Tuah’s library, Andy assists Quỳnh in healing from her injuries. Andy and Quỳnh make a commitment there to locate Discord together and rescue their friends.
After persuading the now-mortal Quỳnh to let go of the explosives, Andy catches up to Discord, and the two fight viciously. She too has lost her immortality, as Discord reveals, and she is desperate to utilise Nile to restore her abilities—by any means necessary. She stabs Andy in the heart, rendering her temporarily helpless enough that Discord and Andy’s abducted allies can escape the facility. She then declares that she will become eternal if they cross paths again. Andy helps Quỳnh heal from her injuries and brings her back to Tuah’s library. There, Quỳnh and Andy promise to locate Discord together and rescue their friends.
