The Odyssey

Story:

Christopher Nolan is the writer and director of the upcoming epic fantasy action movie The Odyssey. The movie, which is based on Homer’s ancient Greek epic the Odyssey, stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, the Greek king of Ithaca. It tells the story of his arduous and dangerous return home during the Trojan War, during which he tries to get back together with his wife, Penelope, played by Anne Hathaway. Among the other members of the ensemble cast are Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, Tom Holland, and Robert Pattinson. The movie is produced by Nolan and his spouse, Emma Thomas, via their production business, Syncopy.

Nolan started writing. By October of 2024, the Odyssey had landed a deal with Universal Pictures, and in December, the movie was revealed. Damon was confirmed for the lead part in February 2025 after casting took place between late 2024 and early 2025. Nolan decided to portray a realistic version of Greek mythology, drawing influence from the works of special effects creator Ray Harryhausen. Several overseas locations in Morocco, Greece, Italy, Scotland, Iceland, and the Western Sahara were used for filming between February and August 2025. The picture is the most costly of Nolan’s career and the first to be shot exclusively on IMAX’s 70 mm film cameras, with an estimated budget of $250 million.On July 17, 2026, Universal Pictures plans to release The Odyssey in theaters across the United States.
