Indian film director, screenwriter, and producer Kamaluddin Mohammed Majeed, better known by his moniker Kamal, primarily works in Malayalam cinema. He served as Kerala State Chalachitra Academy’s previous chairman. In 1986, Kamal directed his first motion picture, Mizhineerppovukal. Kamal has directed more than 40 films in his more than three-decade career. His films, including Kakkothi Kaavile Appoppan Thaadikal (1988), Ulladakkam (1991), (1995), Niram (1999), Madhuranombarakkattu (2000), Meghamalhar (2001), Nammal (2002), Perumazhakkalam (2004), Karutha Pakshikal (2006), and Celluloid (2013), have won numerous National Film Awards and Kerala State Film Awards.
In 2015, the Malayalam film 100 Days of Love marked the directing debut of Jenuse Mohamed, Kamal’s son. According to reports in April 2020, a prospective Mollywood actress accused the director of sexually abusing her after offering her a part in his film and gave him a court notice on April 26 of that year. Kamal claimed that he believed a former employee of the Chalachitra Academy was responsible for the latest exposé and that the accusations were made with the intention of defaming him.
