OTTStory:
Anil Kapoor and Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor are the producers of Raj Singh Chaudhary’s 2022 Indian Hindi-language neo-Western action thriller Thar. Thar is set in the 1980s and centers on a city man who relocates to a remote community for some exploration work, but there’s more to him than meets the eye. Anil Kapoor, Mukti Mohan, Fatima Sana Shaikh, and Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor are the main actors.
Critics gave it mixed to good reviews when it debuted on Netflix on May 6, 2022. While some criticized its formulaic plot, screenplay, and editing, others appreciated the film’s directing, photography, acting, dialogue, background score, and homages to the Western genre. Thar won Best Supporting Actor in a Web Original Film (Anil) at the 2022 Filmfare OTT Awards after receiving five nominations, including Best Web Original Film, Best Actor in a Web Original Film (Harsh Varrdhan), and Best Actress in a Web Original Film (Shaikh).
Plot
In 1985, a mysterious antiques merchant named Siddharth Kumar (Harshvardan Kapoor) passes through Munabao, a rural Rajasthani village in the Thar Desert close to the Pakistani border that has just been shaken by brutal murders. Surekha Singh (Anil Kapoor), the Inspector of Munabao, meets Siddharth while looking into these murders. Surekha’s inquiry leads him to the conclusion that, contrary to what the daughter, the family’s lone survivor, maintains, the dacoits massacred the family ruthlessly for narcotics rather than the dowry money. A peasant named Suwa (Akkshay Gunaawat) is killed and his body is hung on a tree. Given that Suvaw was tortured and disfigured before being hanged, Surekha disagrees with the belief held by many police officers that it was the same group of bandits. Frustrated with Chetna’s (Fatima Sana Shaikh) infertility, Panna (Jitendra Joshi) hits Chetna because she dislikes Siddharth’s frequent visits to their house. Suwa’s companions, Panna, Dhanna (Sanjay Bishnoi), and Kanwar (Sanjay Dadhich), are discovered by Siddharth. He requests a job to bring antiques to Delhi from Panna and Kanwar. Siddharth kidnaps them en route and holds them captive in a fort outside the hamlet. He returns to the village and shares a bed with Chetna. Chetna hopes to accompany him when he leaves the village the following day. Dhanna’s wife informs Surekha that she believes something is amiss.
Further investigation into Siddharth reveals that his wife was sexually assaulted, tormented, and disfigured by these pals in Delhi, and that Siddharth killed them all as payback. Surekha is attacked by the group of dacoits on his way to the fort to arrest Siddharth, but he manages to kill them all before arriving at the fort. In the meantime, Siddharth burns her spouse Panna in front of Chetna after telling her everything. Chetna murders Siddharth when Surekha requests his surrender. Six months later, we witness Surekha healing from his wounds and Chetna carrying Siddharth’s child.
