Akshay Oberoi

Biography:

Akshay Oberoi, born on January 1, 1985, is an actor with Indian heritage who is active in the Hindi film industry. He began his acting journey as a child in the 2002 comedy-drama “American Chai” and later took on his first major role in the film “Isi Life Mein” (2010) produced by Rajshri Productions. Oberoi’s performances have garnered critical acclaim.

For his education, he attended Newark Academy during middle and high school. He pursued a bachelor’s degree in Theater Arts and Economics at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. He underwent acting training at Stella Adler in New York City and Playhouse West in Los Angeles, where he learned the Meisner technique. He studied under John Astin from The Addams Family and also took dance classes in ballet, jazz, and hip-hop at Broadway Dance Center. He relocated to India and engaged in theatrical productions at the renowned Prithvi Theatre, receiving guidance from Kishore Namit Kapoor.

Akshay’s father, Krishan Oberoi, is the brother of actor Suresh Oberoi, making Akshay a first cousin to Vivek Oberoi. He embarked on his career at Prithvi Theatre in Juhu, working with Makrand Deshpande. Initially involved in backstage work, Makrand eventually offered him a role in “Miss Beautiful.”

Oberoi made his cinematic debut in Sooraj Barjatya’s “Isi Life Mein.” While the film didn’t fare well at the box office, Oberoi’s performance received accolades from critics. Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama remarked on his talent and screen presence, while Prathna Tiwari of BollySpice praised his confident dialogue delivery and on-screen charisma. Sarita Tanwar of Mid-Day noted his confidence and delivery.

Oberoi’s acting in films like “Laal Rang” and “Gurgaon” also received high praise. Variety’s Maggie Lee described his work in “Gurgaon” as exuding bad-boy allure and adding physical potency to his character’s unpredictable behavior. Rahul Desai of Film Campion commended his cold-blooded performance, which complemented the film’s tense atmosphere. Subhash K. Jha highlighted Oberoi’s impactful portrayal of the outcast son in “Gurgaon,” noting a sequence where he portrayed intense violence with empathy.
