In 1983, Hyderabad-based journalist Deva Dutta interviews a senior person to learn more about Kollapur’s past. The story begins in 1947, when the Nizam of Hyderabad ordered the Razakars to assault Hindu districts, notably Kollapur, because he did not want Hyderabad to become part of India. Raja Balakishan Rao, the kind ruler of Kollapur, was deceived and assassinated by his commander Narsappa during these battles. In 1948, when Hyderabad became a part of India, Narsappa wanted to run for office in the general elections. However, Raja Ratnam, a close confidant of the Raja, convinced Rani Ramachandramma, the widow of Raja Balakishan Rao, to run in the elections for Kollapur’s benefit. After winning, Rani Ramachandramma founded a number of organizations, like as hospitals and schools. Narsappa took advantage of Raja Ratnam’s tense relationship with his son Perumaallu by burning the palace and pillaging the treasury, which is thought to have killed Raja Ratnam, Rani Ramachandramma, and the former’s kid. With an iron hand, Narsappa thereafter took control of Kollapur and was elected as an MLA.
In the present, it is found that Narsappa’s good-hearted brother, Sekhar Babu, was killed by a fire at a liquor store; his burned body is discovered hanging from a tree. Because of their recent disagreement, Narsappa suspects Perumaallu of the murder and launches a bloody hunt for him. Dutta assists Kalki IPS in his investigation into the murder of Sekhar Babu. They discover that the poison was taken from a rare snake discovered in Nagulakona, a village recently destroyed by a suspicious fire, and that a previous attempt to kill Sekhar Babu during the Bonalu festival using a poisoned arrow was faked. When Kalki and Dutta visit the location, they discover that the fire was started on purpose to destroy the inhabitants. In the meantime, Narsappa kidnaps Palapitta, a tribal girl, with the intention of using her as his concubine. She makes reasons to postpone her fate. Additionally, Kalki and Dutta learn that Kalki had a tense relationship with Padma, the chief physician at the nearby hospital, following his unintentional murder of her father, who was providing sanctuary to Maoists.
In the course of their inquiry, Kalki and Dutta discover that Sekhar Babu and Asima Khan, a Muslim graduate whose boating business was destroyed in a slaughter that was attributed to her because of her faith, were in love. Following the massacre, Asima and her father, Adv. Kabir Khan, were forced to leave. A saint named Sambasivudu is an eyewitness to the massacre, but he declines to testify, according to Kabir. After a while, Kalki and Dutta discover that Raja Ratnam, who had escaped the palace fire, is actually Sambasivudu. Raja Ratnam informs them that Narsappa demolished the village of Nagulakona in order to make it easier for him to smuggle sandalwood illegally. Narsappa attempts to kill Asima, but Kalki rescues her and deduces that Sekhar Babu, who was involved in Narsappa’s crimes, was not as innocent as the villagers believed. Kalki and Dutta confront the masked men involved in the crimes, and Sambasivudu is fatally wounded while protecting Perumaallu, his estranged son. Before dying, Sambasivudu reveals that the events were driven by karma.
Kalki finds out that Narsappa was responsible for the massacre on the boats and the devastation of Nagulakona after capturing the masked men, who turn out to be well-known members of the village. Narsappa is arrested by Kalki, revealing Palapitta to be an undercover police officer. However, Kalki shoots Perumaallu dead after he escapes and murders Narsappa. After learning of Kalki’s role in the boating massacre, Asima later tells Padma that Kalki killed Sekhar Babu. When Dutta hears this, he understands that Kalki was dispatched by the police to get rid of Narsappa and Perumaallu for their misdeeds. Additionally, he discovers that Kalki is the presumed-dead son of Rani Ramachandramma. As the story comes to a close, Kalki—who now understands his true ancestry—leaves the hospital with Padma, his mother, and his helper, having achieved his destiny by exacting revenge on those who have wronged his family and village.
