PLOT:
The film opens with a highly intoxicated, defeated, and irresponsible Bobby. He finds it difficult to accept that his girlfriend Lilly no longer wants him in her life.
Flashback mode is now used to tell the narrative, and Bobby is a left-leaning student union head at a college in Kakinada that has serious anger management problems. He is an unmotivated rebel, in contrast to his grandpa Comrade Suryam. He disputes with Bulliah’s brother, a local politician, as a result of which a student from his college tries suicide after being tortured by him repeatedly in an effort to return his affection. Over this, he even spends a night in jail with his companions.
He bumps across Lilly on the way back, who causes him a small accident. As payment, Bobby steals all of Lilly’s money to fix his bike. When he arrives back home, he learns that Lilly, who had been to Jaya’s wedding, was actually a childhood acquaintance of his and a cousin of his neighbor. Bobby’s past obsession with Jaya is a subject of ongoing hearty mockery from Lilly. Bobby learns that Lilly actually competes at the state level of cricket while watching a local cricket game. She really impresses him, and he begins to fall in love with her.
Lilly witnesses Bobby getting into a furious disagreement with a student political leader during a small party hosted in the union office to celebrate their team’s triumph, and despite her appeals to leave it alone, Bobby starts fighting. Lilly recognizes that Bobby struggles with controlling his anger and advises him to deal and settle disputes alone rather than picking battles with other people. She also says that Bobby’s on-campus fights brought up traumatic memories for her because she had a brother who had died in a fight on a college campus a few years before.
Ramesh Rao then insults Bobby and Lilly in front of the judge, demanding an apology from Lilly for making false accusations against him, and claims that everything she did was simply a cheap publicity ploy carried out by a player like her. Ramesh Rao is attacked by Lilly in front of the committee when she becomes outraged by this and is already stung by Bobby’s reprehensible falsehoods. Lilly then angrily admits that Ramesh Rao had sexually harassed and abused her while abusing his position as a selection. She promises Ramesh Rao that one day she would join the national team and captain it. Bobby is thrilled to see Lilly’s return to her enthusiastic cricketer self as he gets to see everything from the sidelines without Lilly noticing.
Later, when confronted by reporters outside, Lilly answers them bravely and declares that every woman ought to have a Comrade who encourages her on her path and gives her the strength to stand out for her rights. She then frantically seeks out Bobby and confides in him that she finally overcame her concerns to beat Ramesh Rao up in front of everyone after nailing him. Bobby admits with a smile that he saw Lilly come into her own. Bobby is eventually made to retract his prior caustic remarks on their divergent experiences by Lilly. The two lovers reconnect when a smiling Bobby accomplishes this, having at last accepted their actual identities.
