Sujith Sarang is an Indian director of photography who was born on June 22, 1985. His films include Taxiwaala, Dear Comrade, Mudhal Nee Mudivum Nee, Kanam, and Oke Oka Jeevitham. He mostly works in the Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam film industries. He graduated from the MGR Film and TV Institute. He received the Best Student Cinematographer State Award from the Tamil Nadu Government for the 2008–2009 academic year.
Sujith was born into an artistic household. In a Palakkad school, his father Sarangadharan KR taught drawing. He was also skilled in tai chi and karate. Sujith Sarang was exposed to his father’s artwork as a child. Prior to being encouraged to enroll at the film institute by his brother Sreejith Sarang, a film editor and colorist, he had no intention of becoming a filmmaker. Sujith developed his sense of color, composition, and frame from being surrounded by his father’s paintings as a child. In addition, he shared the national karate championship with his siblings Sreejith and Sreeja. Sujith earned a physics degree from Shri Nehru Maha Vidyalaya in Coimbatore and a certificate in film technology from the old M.G.R Film and Television Training Institute.
Sujith is a native of Coimbatore. He attended the C.S.I Boys Higher Secondary School and the V.L.B Janaki Ammal Matriculation School in Coimbatore for his education. In addition to having a diploma in film technology from M.G.R. Film and Television Training Institute, formerly known as Adayar Film Institute, he also holds a bachelor’s degree in physics from Shri Nehru Maha Vidyalaya in Coimbatore. He won the T.K. Venkat Memorial Endowment Award for his 2006–2009 cohort.He was given a state award from the Tamilnadu government for being the best student cinematographer in the academic year 2008–2009.
Sujith Sarang began working as a freelance director of photography in 2008. He then began acting in commercials and short films starting in 2010. He was well-known for his Telugu short film Maro Prapancham and his Tamil short films 5 Rooba, Pannaiyarum Padminiyum, Vyugam, Pechhi, and Aghavizhi. He started working on feature films gradually starting in 2011. His first Telugu movie, Alias Janaki, earned the Andhra Government’s Nandi Award for the Best Feature Film on National Integration.
Later, he did the cinematography for films such as Thaakka Thaakka, Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru (D-16), Angels, IDI (Inspector Dawood Ibrahim), Taxiwaala, Naragasooran, Dear Comrade, Suttupidikka Utharavu, Champion under Suseenthiran direction, Darbuka Siva’s Mudhal Nee Mudivum Nee, Oke Oka Jeevitham for Dream Warrior starring Sharwanand, Amala Akkineni, Ritu Varma, Nasser and Navarasa for Netflix.
